Equine Physiotherapy for Performance, Rehabilitation & Maintenance

Equine physiotherapy supports horses in maintaining mobility, recovering from injury and performing at their best. Treatments focus on improving movement, reducing muscular tension and supporting overall wellbeing.

Hi, I'm Loicia, I work with horses across a range of disciplines including leisure, competition and rehabilitation cases. I am an experienced animal physiotherapist, qualifying from The College of Animal Physiotherapy UK, specialising in equine rehabilitation.  I graduated from the University of Greenwich with a First Class BSc (Hons) in Equine Sports Therapy and Rehabilitation and later completed my Master’s degree (MSc) in Equine Science at the University of Edinburgh. My work focuses on improving equine performance, rehabilitation, and long-term musculoskeletal health.

Alongside academia, I value hands-on experience. I have worked within veterinary environments, including time spent at Bell Equine Veterinary Clinic, as well as managing yards both within and outside of the rehabilitation sector.

I also holds specialist certifications in:

  • Swimming horses for rehabilitation and conditioning

  • Aqua treadmill therapy

  • Saltwater spa therapy for recovery and fitness

My research has been internationally recognised. Research has been presented in Australia and received the Dedication to Animal Welfare Award in 2018. In 2023, research conducted with the University of Edinburgh was accepted for presentation at the International Conference on Canine and Equine Locomotion in Utrecht, The Netherlands.

Equine physiotherapy may help with:

  • Post-injury rehabilitation

  • Muscle soreness or stiffness

  • Reduced performance or movement issues

  • Recovery after veterinary treatment

  • Maintenance for competition horses

Sessions may include:

  • Soft tissue massage

  • Stretching and mobilisation

  • Rehabilitation exercises

  • Postural assessment

  • Electrotherapeutic modalities such as TENS/EMS, laser and PEMF etc.

Each session begins with a detailed assessment of your horse’s movement, posture and history. Treatments are tailored to your horse’s individual needs, and owners may be given exercises to support ongoing improvement between visits.
